Unigraphics nostalgia

If you're interested in the history of CAD/CAM systems (especially Unigraphics, starting from 1960s) you must visit John Baker's great UG museum at http://www.plmworld.org/museum/

It's quite shocking to see that people used computers with displays even worse than Commodore64 to design an automobile. Maybe I'll print out some pictures and show it to one of those users who complains that he's doing lots of extra work while making an A0 drawing in just 5 minutes!

I liked the museum even the fact that I dont know the a,b,c of Unigraphics. Kinda time tunnel!

I actually worked on the system that they show in "The Total Solution" literature back in 1985. At that time it was over 10 years old.

Hakan, the Tektronix 4014 Display Terminal shown in your picture here, was most certainly superior to Commodore 64 ! I used one for many years with UG1 and although monochrome, it had a beautifully fine resolution of 4096 x 4096 pixels. Name one display today that has that kind of resolution. You could view a 1mm dia. hole at 1:1 resolution and still see it was a circle!

Thanks anyway, for pushing the news about the museum.

All The Best,
Gary
